Dr. Josef Issel's Whole Body Therapy

A pioneer in alternative cancer treatment, Josef Issels, MD, of Germany, achieved remarkable remissions, even in advanced cases, through combination of therapies designed to shrink the tumor and repair the body's defense mechanisms. His "whole body" approach included anticancer vaccines, an anticancer diet emphasizing organic raw foods, and fever therapy to stimulate immune function. He also used a variety of methods to rebuild the immune system and change the body's biochemistry to eliminate an evironment favorable for the development of cancer.

Occasionally he also used very-low-dose chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and ozone therapy in combination with immunotherapy. He prescribed organ extracts to repair damage to organs and improve their functioning. He also administered organ-specific RNA and DNA, proteolytic enzymes to destroy the protein coat surrounding tumors, as well as vitamins and minerals to strengthen the body's enzyme activity. He recommended his patients to have the infected teeth and/or tonsils, and metallic (especially mercury amalgams) fillings removed, because he felt these could have unfavorable effect on immune system. His program also includes psychotherapy to deal with the emotional factors that he felt could hinder recovery.

Dr. Issels gave patients a "fever shot" once a month to raise the body temperature as high as 105 F. He induced active fever with the ethical drug Pyrifer, made from specially treated coli bacteria. He induced passive fever by means of hyperthermia: the patient was placed inside a cylinder containing electrodes that bombarded his or her body with ultra short waves.

He tried to motivate the cancer patients to take on full time struggle against cancer. As one unusual example, his cancer patients were routed out of their beds to do light mountain climbing in the Bavarian Alps. The patients also participated in a daily exercise that included jogging.

Two independent studies - one at King's college Hospital in London, the other at the University of Leyden in Holland - confirmed that about 17 percent of Issel's terminal patients led normal, cancer-free lives for at least five years. Their life expectancy upon admission had been less than one year.

In 50s and 60s the German medical establishment was nowhere near as liberal as now. It boycotted and isolated Dr. Issels. Finally, the German medical authorities leveled trumped-up charges of fraud and manslaughter against Issels, and in 1960, Issels was imprisoned in a cell block containing only convicted murderers. Eventually, however, Dr. Issels was acquitted of all charges. Continue Reading >>

Linus Pauling--Molecular Diseases, Sickle Cell Anemia

Sickle cell anemia is a serious condition in which the red blood cells can become sickle-shaped (that is, shaped like a "C").

Normal red blood cells are smooth and round like a doughnut without a hole. They move easily through blood vessels to carry oxygen to all parts of the body. Sickle-shaped cells don't move easily through blood. They're stiff and sticky and tend to form clumps and get stuck in blood vessels.

The clumps of sickle cells block blood flow in the blood vessels that lead to the limbs and organs. Blocked blood vessels can cause pain, serious infections, and organ damage. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/D.

No More Heart Attacks or Strokes

Unlike most medical doctors, natural healers do not look to pharmaceutical companies as their first line of defense against heart disease. Instead, they turn to natural means of lowering risk.

If a patient has angina caused by acid bound cholesterol forming blockages to the heart, a cardiologist might use angioplasty to compress or remove the blockages, and prescribe a statin drug to lower cholesterol.
But in addition to the risks involved in the procedure itself, results are often temporary and the blockages return in a few short months because the main cause of the blockage has not been dealt with - dietary and metabolic acid. Acidic Statins also cause stage 4 acidic side effects, including severe muscle pain or weakness and sleep disturbances.

A natural healer would prescribe lifestyle and dietary changes to restore blood flow to the heart by naturally lowering acid bound cholesterol and decreasing acidic artery-clogging deposits. Below are the steps that a pH Miracle Life Coach might use to lower acidity and thus lower cholesterol levels to protect the body from heart attacks and strokes. I refer to this plan as the C.O.W.S. Plan which is an acronym which stands for a lifestyle and diet of chlorophyll, oil, oxygen, water, salt and sunshine. To be truly healthy you need to start eating like COWS.

1) Chlorophyll - A diet high in green vegetables and green fruits. I also recommend fresh green juices and liquid chlorophyll in alkaline water everyday. You can add the liquid chlorophyll to your green juices or green powders. A man, woman or child should drink at least 1 liter of green drink for every 25 kilos of weight or 50 pounds. I have created the first liquid chlorophyll fresh from alfalfa grass, without alcohol, chemicals or sugars that can be added to water, green drinks and green shakes. You can order this liquid green by calling 760-751-8321. It comes in a 4 ounce bottle and is 100% pure and organic.

2) Oil - I recommend at least 2 to 3 ounces or 100 to 150 mL of cold pressed omega 1, 3, 5, 6, and 9 oils.
My favorite is the avocado oil and the pomagranate oil.
I also recommend flax, hemp, pumpkin, olive, primrose.
sesame and borage oil.

3) Oxygen - The best way to increase oxygen is through exercise. The second best way to increase oxygen is with sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium bicarbonate, and potassium hydroxide.

4) Water - The single most important thing that one can do is to drink more 9.5 alkaline pH water and at least 1 liter per 24 kilos of weight or 50 pounds.
The best drinking water is purified, alkalinize, and energized. You can learn more about the right kind of water to drink by going to our website at:

5) Salt - Without salt there would be no life. Salt is the catalyst of electron transport. It is what keeps your heart beating and energy flowing to every anatomical element that makes up every cell. I recommend eating at least 1 gram of salt for every
5 kilos or 10 pounds of weight. The best salt in the world is whole, unprocessed sea salts in a colloidal form. Such a salt exists and is called pHlavor by Young pHorever.

6) Sunshine - Just like salt without sunshine all life on earth would cease to exist. I recommend at least
1 hour of daily exercise and the best way to get 1 hour of exercise is while you are walking, jogging, bicycling, swimming, running, playing tennis, rebounding, etc. outside in the sun. The sun releases photons which the body converts into electrical energy via the eyes and skin. This is a natural and effective way to energize the body.

The following are some additional ways to help keep your body and heart healthy from dietary and metabolic acids:

1) High fiber diet - A daily high-fiber intake would include five to ten grams of soluble fiber. This also helps to keep the bowel clear of undigested food and acidic toxins which are adsorbed and absorbed by the fiber. I would also recommend magnesium oxide with sodium bicarbonate in a product I call pHlush.

2) Co-Q-10 - Research has indicated that taking Co-Q-10 everyday may help to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

3) Nuts - All nuts, but especially walnuts and almonds, contain heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E and soluble fiber. Studies have shown that people who eat nuts twice a week lower their risk of heart disease by 30 to 40 percent.

4) Plant Sterols - Sterols, which are found naturally in many plant foods, decrease the amount of acidic bound cholesterol absorbed by the body. The most important and the most powerful plant sterol of comes from green fruits and vegetables, such as avocado and broccoli.

5) Glutathione - the most powerful antioxidant for buffering dietary and metabolic acids that can make your heart weak. I would suggest 1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid glutathione every day to keep your heart and body healthy and strong.

More Vitamin D in Childhood Cuts Later Diabetes Risk

(HealthDay News) -- Children who take vitamin D supplements may be less likely to develop type 1 diabetes later in life, according to researchers who analyzed the findings of five previously published studies.

The researchers found that children who were given additional vitamin D were about 30 percent less likely to develop type 1 diabetes than children who didn't receive vitamin D supplements. The evidence also indicated that the higher and more regular the dose of vitamin D, the lower the risk of developing diabetes.

The findings were published online in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood.

Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disorder, develops when insulin-producing cells in the pancreas are destroyed by the body's immune system, a process that begins in early infancy, according to background information in the review study.

The incidence of type 1 diabetes is increasing by about 3 percent a year, and it's estimated that new cases of the disease will have increased 40 percent between 2000 and 2010. People of European descent are most likely to have type 1 diabetes, which affects about two million Europeans and North Americans.

There's evidence that levels of vitamin D and exposure to sunlight, which prompts the body to make vitamin D, influence the risk of developing some types of autoimmune disorders.

The review authors noted that global rates of type 1 diabetes vary greatly, according to latitude and levels of sunlight. For example, a child in Finland is 400 times more likely than a child in Venezuela to develop type 1 diabetes.

The fact that pancreatic beta cells and immune cells carry receptors for the active form of vitamin D provide further proof of the link between vitamin D and type 1 diabetes, the review authors said.

Evidence of TB Found in 500,000-Year-Old Fossil

(HealthDay News) -- The oldest evidence of tuberculosis has been discovered in a 500,000-year-old human fossil from Turkey, a finding that contradicts the widely held belief that the disease emerged only several thousand years ago, according to a team of international researchers.

The discovery, made during investigation of the new specimen of the human species Homo erectus, lends support to the theory that dark-skinned people who migrated northward from low, tropical latitudes produced less vitamin D, which can have a negative effect on the immune system and the skeleton.

People with dark skin produce less vitamin D because the skin pigment blocks ultraviolet light from the sun.

"The production of vitamin D in the skin serves as one of the body's first lines of defense against a whole host of infections and diseases. Vitamin D deficiencies are implicated in hypertension, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease and cancer," John Kappelman, a professor of anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin and a member of the international team, said in a prepared statement.

This specimen, believed to be a male, had a series of small lesions etched into the bone of the cranium. The shape and the location of the lesions are characteristic of a form of TB that attacks the lining of the brain.

The findings are published in the Dec. 7 issue of the American Journal of Physical Anthropology.

Before antibiotics were available, doctors prescribed plenty of sunshine and fresh air for TB patients.
"No one knew why sunshine was integral to the treatment, but it worked. Recent research suggests the flush of ultraviolet radiation jump-started the patients' immune systems by increasing the production of vitamin D, which helped to cure the disease," Kappelman said.

Almost a Third of U.S. Kids Use Supplements

(HealthDay News) -- More than 30 percent of American children take some kind of dietary supplement, mostly multivitamins and multiminerals, a U.S. National Institutes of Health study finds.

The study analyzed data on more than 10,000 youngsters from the 1999 to 2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

The study found that 31.8 percent of children 18 and younger had used dietary supplements in the previous 30 days. This included 11.9 percent of those younger than 1 year, 38.4 percent of those ages 1-3, 40.6 percent of those ages 4-8, 28.9 percent of those ages 9-13, and 25.7 percent of those ages 14-18.

Among American adults, 57 percent of women and 47 percent of men take dietary supplements.
Among the other study findings:
  • Supplements were used by 38.3 percent of non-Hispanic white children, 22.4 percent of Mexican Americans, and 18.8 percent of non-Hispanic blacks
  • Multivitamins and multiminerals (18.3 percent) were the most commonly used supplements, followed by single vitamins (4.2 percent), single minerals (2.4 percent), and botanical supplements (0.8 percent)
  • 83.9 percent of children who took any supplements took only one, 11.8 percent took two, and 4.3 percent took three or more
  • Supplement use in children was associated with higher family income, a smoke-free environment, lower body mass index, and less daily television, video game or computer time
  • Underweight children or those at risk for being underweight were most likely to take supplements.

The study is published the October issue of the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

The researchers in the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements said their findings show that "dietary supplements provide a consistent daily source of nutrients for nearly one-third of U.S. children, yet individual and national-level estimates of nutrient intake rarely account for them."

"Dietary Reference Intakes and Dietary Guidelines for Americans provide recommended nutrient intakes and advice on food choices that promote health and reduce the risk of disease.

To truly assess the nutrient status and estimate the potential health risks of U.S. children, we must include nutrient intakes from dietary supplements as well as from food," the study authors concluded.

Omega-3, Vitamin D Levels Cut Risk of Eye Disease

(HealthDay News) -- Eating plenty of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids -- such as tuna and salmon -- may reduce the risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration, a new study says.

The study findings are published in the May issue of the journal Archives of Ophthalmology.

A second study in the same issue of the journal found that people with higher blood levels of vitamin D may reduce their risk of early stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the most common cause of blindness among older adults in the United States. AMD occurs when the macula, located at the back of the retina, deteriorates over time.

The first study included 4,519 people who were 60 to 80 years old when they enrolled between 1992 and 1998. Their eyes were checked to determine if they had AMD, and they were also asked about their eating habits.

The researchers compared the 1,115 people who had no sign of AMD with those who did, including 658 with neovascular (severe) AMD.

"Dietary total omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid intake was inversely associated with neovascular AMD, as was docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)," the study authors wrote. DHA is a fatty acid believed to affect the retina.

"Higher fish consumption, both total and broiled/baked, was also inversely associated with neovascular AMD," the authors wrote.

They said that eating more than two medium (4-ounce) servings of fish a week, or more than one medium serving of broiled or baked fish, was associated with a lower risk for advanced AMD.

Omega-3 fatty acids may help ensure proper blood vessel function in the retina and also reduce inflammation and maintain energy balance, the researchers said.

In the second study, U.S. researchers looked at 7,752 people, including 11 percent with AMD, and found that levels of "serum vitamin D were inversely associated with early AMD but not advanced AMD."

Those with the highest levels of vitamin D in their blood had a 40 percent lower risk of early AMD than those with the lowest levels of vitamin D.

The researchers said that vitamin D may lower the risk of AMD by reducing inflammation or preventing the growth of new blood vessels in the retina, which contributes to some forms of the eye disease.

An analysis of the blood serum of more than 7 million U.S. military personnel, 257 of whom had multiple sclerosis (MS

An analysis of the blood serum of more than 7 million U.S. military personnel, 257 of whom had Multiple sclerosis (MS), found that vitamin D is associated with a lower risk of multiple sclerosis.

MS cases were identified through physical disability databases and medical-record reviews.
The benefits, at least among Caucasians (the majority of the study participants), included a 41 percent decrease in MS risk for every 50-nmol/L increase in blood levels of vitamin D.

Those whose vitamin D levels were in the top 20 percent saw their MS risks plunge by 62 percent compared to those in the lowest 20 percent.

Vitamin D is known to be a potent immunomodulator, and increasing vitamin D levels among adolescents and young adults could lead to a reduction in MS cases.

Vitamin D or sunlight is a wonderful buffer of metabolic acids which is the primary cause of MS.
I recommend at least 20 to 30 minutes a day of natural sunlight to help reduce metabolic acids and thus reduce the risk for MS.

Antioxidants (such as vitamins A, C, E, and beta-carotene; flavonoids, and OPCs)

Antioxidants (such as vitamins A, C, E, and beta-carotene; flavonoids, and OPCs) are compounds found in whole foods that neutralize free radicals.

Every time we breathe, we are invaded by free radicals—highly reactive molecules produced by cigarette smoke, pollution, toxic chemicals, and the body's normal process of metabolizing air and food.

These free radicals can wear down the immune system, making us more susceptible to illness and disease.

The Pacelli Chiropractic & Health Potential Complex Web site states:

How often do you get to see if small changes in nutrition, really can make a difference?

Well in this case, that's how we work. After making our recommendations, we repeat the test in 2 weeks, and look to see if we see changes.

This way you get to see the changes in your blood as we help correct the problems, it also allows us to check dosages to make sure that you are getting the proper amount of the vitamin, mineral, protein, or enzyme you need to restore you to optimal health.

These claims are sheer bunkum. Dark-field microscopy is a valid scientific tool in which special lighting is used to examine specimens of cells and tissues. The objects being viewed stand out against a dark background-the opposite of what occurs during regular microscopy.

This allows the observer to see things that might not be visible with standard lighting. Connecting a television monitor to a microscope for diagnostic purposes is also a legitimate practice. However, live cell analysis is not. Although a few characteristics of blood (such as the relative size of the red cells) are observable, live cell analysts invariably misinterpret other things, such as the extent of red blood cell clumping, changes in the shape of the cells, and other artifacts that occur as the blood sample dries.

Moreover, most practitioners who perform the test are not qualified to manage the problems they purport to diagnose.

During the mid-1980s, one company marketing live-cell equipment projected that a practitioner who persuades one patient per day to embrace a supplement program based on the test would net over $60,000 per year for testing and supplement sales. Another company estimated that with five new patients a day (22 days a month) paying $30 for the test and $50 for supplements, practitioners would gross over $100,000 per year just on initial visits.

Today's most active individual promoter of live-cell analysis is probably James R. Privitera, M.D., of Covina, California, who claims that "clot malfunction" is an underlying cause of many diseases, can be diagnosed with live cell analysis, and can be treated with large doses of dietary supplements.

His book, Silent Clots, describes his "general daily guidelines [for supplements] that have worked well for many patients as an anti-clotting program." The book also describes regimens for arthritis, asthma, baldness, bladder infections, cancer, colds, colitis, cramps, diabetes, diarrhea, diverticulosis, eczema, and edema, and includes case histories of patients he treated for many other conditions [1].

I do not believe there is any scientific evidence for these claims or that these regimens are effective as Privitera claims. His's web site offers more than 150 supplement products for sale.

In 1975, Privitera was convicted of conspiring to prescribe and distribute laetrile and was sentenced to six months in prison. (Laetrile is a quack cancer remedy.) In 1980, after the appeals process ended, he served 55 days in jail but was released after being pardoned by California Governor Jerry Brown. (The pardon occurred in response to a letter-writing campaign generated by the National Health Federation, a group that espouses what it calls "health freedom.")

Then, because Privitera had been prescribing unapproved substances (including laetrile, calcium pangamate, and DMSO) for the treatment of cancer, the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance suspended his medical license for four months and placed him on ten years' probation under board supervision.

During the probationary period, Privitera was "prohibited from making any representation that he is able to cure cancer through nutrition." He was also forbidden to tell patients they had cancer unless the diagnosis was confirmed in writing by an appropriate board-certified specialist.

During the probationary period, Privitera commercialized live-cell analysis and founded two companies that marketed devices for doing it. Silent Clots mentions that in 1993, a federal judge signed an order authorizing Internal Revenue Service agents to enter his clinic premises to effect a levy and that a seizure was made.

However, the book provides no further details about his tax-related difficulty.

Critical Reports
During the mid-1980s, National Council Against Health Fraud vice president James Lowell, Ph.D., watched three practitioners demonstrate live cell analysis at health expositions.

Lowell noted:
None took precautions during the preparation of the slides to prevent the blood from drying out or clotting.

They failed to clean their microscope slides carefully between patients, which meant that dirt seen under the microscope would be misinterpreted as blood components.

Some of the patterns one practitioner saw resulted from his microscope being out of focus and disappeared when Lowell adjusted it properly. [2}

Live cell analysis is also promoted by Infinity
2, of Scottsdale, Arizona, a multilevel company whose distributors often demonstrate their wares at chiropractic conventions. Infinity2 calls the test "live cell microscopy" and recruits licensed health professionals to use the procedure to sell its products. In 1995, I was tested at a national chiropractic convention where two teams of Infinity distributors had exhibits.

One exhibitor said I had "mild B12 deficiency" and "maldigestion" that could weaken my immune system and cause fatigue. The other said my blood cells showed evidence of "liver toxicity," "bacterial infection," and "free radical damage."

In both cases the recommended "treatment" was enzyme pills, which the company was marketing with false claims that "enzyme deficiency" is widespread among Americans. To reinforce their that the pills could help me, both practitioners gave me enzyme pills, repeated the procedure several minutes later, and said that the problems were no longer visible. Unknown to them, however,

I had faked taking the pills, so the "improvements" they saw had nothing to do with them. The most likely explanation is that the specimens were examined differently. Blood dries more quickly near the edges of the slide than near the center. Thus "improvement" will occur if the first specimen is examined near an edge and the second specimen is examined near its center.

Legal Action
In 1996, the Pennsylvania Department of Laboratories informed three Pennsylvania chiropractors that Infinity2's "Nutritional Blood Analysis" could not be used for diagnostic purposes unless they maintain a laboratory that has both state and federal certification for complex testing [3].

The company's attorney replied:
As background, you should know that part of our business activity is supplying a microscope system that is equipped for the demonstration of blood samples on a video monitor. We teach and recommend the use of this system as a health education demonstration. In our training and system we do not teach, promote or address in any manner using the system for "analysis" or any other medical purpose.

Our system is based on obtaining a written nutritional and lifestyle analysis from patients of doctors using the microscopy system. Once this questionnaire and evaluation of lifestyle and nutrition is examined by the doctor, the doctor then makes specific recommendations to the patient, based solely and exclusively on the nutritional analysis and personal interview with the patient.

After any recommendation has been made for altering the patient's lifestyle or nutritional habits, the doctor may place a single drop of blood on a sample slide for viewing through the dark field microscope which is then displayed on a video monitor.

This demonstration is a powerful motivating tool to encourage a doctor's patient to accept the doctor's previously made recommendations and alter his or her lifestyle to a healthier form of living.

The doctor performing the demonstration never makes any analysis, determination or recommendation based on the video demonstration. There is no commentary given regarding the state of the patient's blood or anything seen in the bloodscreen itself other than to educate the patient by pointing out features of the blood such as red cells, white cells, and plasma. The patient is able to view a sample of his/her own blood, which results in the motivation that can lead to beneficial lifestyle changes for the individual patient [4].

A Laboratory Department official then informed the attorney that certification would be required if the practitioner:

Either prescribed a nutritional supplement or changed the amount or type of a supplement based on viewing a blood sample.

Recommended lifestyle or nutritional changes based on viewing a blood sample.
Performed nutritional microscopy more than once for a given patients.

Compared the patient's blood smear to that of another slide or picture
Showed the patient's blood smear and making any comment or providing any information other than to point out features of the blood such as red cells, white cells, and platelets [5].

Very few if any chiropractors would have reason to seek laboratory certification, and even if they did, I doubt that permission would be granted to perform this test for diagnostic purposes. If you encounter anyone who performs any type of live cell analysis, please report this to your state department of laboratories and send a copy of your notice to me at P.O. Box 1646, Allentown, PA 18105

Vegetables May Boost Brain Power in Older Adults

(HealthDay News) -- Want to preserve your mental edge as you age? Vegetables -- particularly green, leafy ones -- will do the trick if you eat three servings a day, new research shows.

But the research also suggests that the same effect is not found in those who eat lots of fruit.

"It's a modest effect," said Martha Clare Morris, associate professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, and lead author of the study. "People who consumed two or more vegetables a day had a 35 to 40 percent decrease in the decline in thinking ability over six years. That's the equivalent of being five years younger in age."

The study results are published in the Oct. 24 issue of the journal Neurology.

Morris' team studied 3,718 research participants 65 or older who live in the south side of Chicago. Sixty-two percent were black, 38 percent were non-Hispanic white, and 62 percent were female.

"We used a complete food questionnaire of 139 different food items," Morris said. "We asked about their usual intake and assessed the frequency of intake." During the six-year study, the participants received at least two cognitive tests that measured their memory and thinking speed.

"By far, the association with a slower rate of decline was found in the group that ate high amounts of green, leafy vegetables," Morris said. Such foods included lettuce and tossed salad, spinach, kale and collards.

The study also found that the slowdown in cognitive decline was greatest in the oldest people who ate at least two more vegetable servings a day.

Because the cognitive tests measured overall thinking ability, the benefits of eating vegetables may translate into an easier time with such everyday tasks as remembering phone numbers and names and balancing checkbooks, Morris said.

Morris suspects that vegetables may help protect memory and thinking speed because they contain high amounts of vitamin E, an antioxidant that can help reduce the damage caused by free radicals, unstable oxygen molecules generated by normal metabolism that can damage neurons in the brain and contribute to dementia.

"We had found in previous studies that vitamin E in food protected against cognitive decline and the development of Alzheimer's disease," she said.

Her previous research also had shown that consumption of healthy fats, such as the polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats found in foods such as olive oil, were similarly protective.

"When we eat vegetables, we tend to put the good fats on them, such as an oil-based salad dressing on salads, healthy-fat mayonnaise on cole slaw, and healthy-fat margarine on vegetables," Morris said. "Such fats help us to absorb the vitamin E, and perhaps are also beneficial to the brain. So that's one plausible explanation of why vegetables are good for you."

Morris' study also found that high consumption of fruit had no effect on thinking ability. A similar large-scale study, the Nurses' Health Study, also found that high vegetable consumption, but not high fruit consumption, was associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline.

One of the most common antioxidants found in fruit, vitamin C, has not been consistently shown to protect the brain, Morris said. Most of her study participants consumed fruit such as oranges, grapefruits, apples and bananas, which are high in vitamin C.

It's possible that some fruit may contain compounds that counteract antioxidants. Further studies are needed to determine whether fruit is brain-protective, she said.

As for eating vegetables, Morris said it's too soon to say for sure that they actually preserve the brain from age-related decline. "But it's encouraging to see that it appears to slow the rate of decline," she said. "We know that eating vegetables is important for chronic diseases. So this might be one more reason why you should eat your vegetables."

In her next study of the same group of Chicago residents, Morris hopes to examine whether high vegetable consumption helps protect against Alzheimer's disease. Results are expected in the next year, she said.

Dallas Anderson is program director for epidemiologic studies of Alzheimer's disease at the National Institute on Aging. "It may be premature to discount the role of fruit consumption in maintaining cognitive health," he said, citing recent research showing that weekly consumption of three or more servings of fruit and vegetable juices was associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer's.

"Further research will be needed to take account of how the fruit is prepared, as peeling may greatly reduce the amounts of antioxidants available," Anderson said.

"I anticipate that further research will refine what we know about the relationship between fruit and vegetable consumption and cognitive function, helping to determine more definitively the types and amounts of foods that may preserve cognition," he added.

Detoxamin EDTA Chelation Therapy, Time Release Calcium Disodium EDTA

Detoxamin EDTA Chelation Therapy Suppositories are a new patented method of Ca-EDTA chelation therapy medically equivalent to I.V. chelation therapy. The difference is that Detoxamin introduces a smaller dosage of Calcium Disodium EDTA on a nightly basis.
order here:

By applying the highly efficacious Detoxamin suppository containing EDTA, you remove toxic metal from cells all over the body. The self-administration is performed rectally before retiring so that as you sleep you are taking chelation therapy with EDTA. There's no need for intravenous infusions or quantities of nutritional supplements.

What is EDTA chelation therapy and what is it used for?
Chelation (pronounced key-lay-shun) is the process by which a metal or mineral (such as lead, mercury, iron, arsenic, aluminum, etc.) is bonded to another substance-in this case an amino acid called EDTA, Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetic acid. It is a natural process, basic to life itself.

During EDTA chelation therapy, the EDTA infusion bonds with unwanted metals in the body and quickly carries them away in the urine. Chelation therapy is a safe, effective alternative to drugs and surgeries and is used to treat many illnesses now known to be linked to the presence of toxic heavy metals.

Illnesses such as heart disease, strokes, diabetes, circulatory disorders, neuropathies, Alzheimer's disease, atherosclerosis, and adverse reactions to many environmental pollutants. Traditional chelation therapy uses an intravenous drip, and is administered in the outpatient setting. The number of treatments vary based on each person's individual condition and/or goals of treatment. The average therapy is given one to three times a week for twenty to thirty treatments.

How long has EDTA chelation therapy been in use? Why don't more people use it?
EDTA chelation therapy for the detoxification for heavy metals has been in continuous use since the 1940s when it was introduced specifically for the treatment of lead poisoning. It was very quickly observed that as the metals were eliminated, not only did the signs and symptoms of lead poisoning abate, but problems related to the circulatory system like heart attacks, angina, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease also improved. For the past 50 years, well over one million people have received the intravenous form of EDTA chelation. As beneficial and life saving as this therapy has become, it is very expensive and very time-consuming, making it out of reach for most people.

Why is Ca-EDTA, Calcium Disodium EDTA, so much better than other types of chelation therapy?
According to Dr. Bruce Halstead, "The chemistry of all chelators is such that a change of pH can dramatically effect the process of chemical binding needed to chelate a mineral or metal. When you use a less effective chelator, such as Magnesium EDTA, you lose all chelating ability of the two most essential heavy metals: lead and mercury. Magnesium di-Potassium EDTA has a dramatically lower chelating effectiveness than Calcium EDTA because both magnesium and potassium dramatically decrease the pH in the blood environment to which it is introduced. Any factor decreasing pH renders EDTA less effective. Once the pH is lowered more than 7.38, it's no longer chemically conducive to any bonding or chelating." (Dr. Halstead is well known as the 'Father of Chelation Therapy'.)

Dr. Morton Walker Speaks on Detoxamin - Toxic Metals Induce Degenerative Diseases; Rectal Chelation Therapy Overcomes Them.

Environmentalists warn us repeatedly that we live on a poisoned planet. Toxins from mercury, lead, aluminum, cadmium, iron, nickel, and about 20 more metallic minerals permeate the Earth's milieu. Heavy and light metals poison us by combining to create deleterious signs and symptoms often referred to collectively as Toxic Metal Syndrome.

This syndrome, an indicator of serious systemic pathology, results in degenerative diseases which affect no less than 92% of the populations of Western industrialized nations, in particular, those people living in apartment high-rises and other polluted city dwellings. What happens to them? These poisoned people eventually come down with manifestations of degenerative illnesses such as heart and/or blood vessel deteriorations; pancreatitis; gout, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis; the syndromes of yeast, chronic fatigue, and/or irritable bowel; Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, parkinsonism, and many more which may be deadly-cancer for instance.

Although a poisoned person's bones remain toxic for life, excellent self-treatment exists to reduce or reverse most symptoms of illness in other body parts. First, get tested for the extent of toxicity, then neutralize metallic poisoning with a chelating agent such as Detoxamin.

Rectal chelation therapy does the job of detoxifying in a low-cost, convenient manner; it's an effective way to effuse EDTA through the bowel's walls and into your blood stream to clean toxic metals from all body cells.

Do I need Ca-EDTA chelation therapy?
We find ourselves existing in a far more toxic and hostile environment than our bodies were designed to handle. Experts have shown that almost every health problem-from learning disorders to cancer and heart disease-is aggravated by the approximate 1,000% increase in lead levels in our bones. In 1999, it was reliably reported that hearts with some form of disease have 20,000 times more toxic heavy metals than healthy hearts.

"Human exposure to heavy metals has risen dramatically in the last 50 years as a result of an exponential increase in the use of heavy metals in industrial processes and products." says Maile Pouls, Ph.D (Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, July 1999).

A recently concluded "Body Burden" study by New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Environmental Working Group was reviewed by University of Oregon Professor Joseph Thornton: "It shows the universality of chemical contamination of people's bodies," Thornton said. All the studies "confirm the general message that everybody in our society has these chemicals building up. Some people have it worse than others, but everyone has it. No one is clean anymore." (From Being Careful Can't Keep Chemicals Out of Your Body, Miami Herald, February 1, 2003.)

Today we know that about one out of every 2.5 Americans will get cancer. Ninety eight percent of cancer is caused by toxic chemicals. When 50% of all men and 33% of all women living now will die of cancer, something is terribly wrong. (Mortality from cancer was reduced by 90% during an 18-year study of 59 patients treated with Calcium-EDTA. This and over 40 other studies prove the efficacy of Ca-EDTA, Calcium Disodium EDTA chelation therapy and Detoxamin. We will all function better and live longer if we lower the overall burden of toxic metals within ourselves. If you eat or breathe, you will probably benefit greatly from chelation therapy.

Is Detoxamin safe for children?
Yes. In fact, Detoxamin case studies were conducted on lead poisoning in children. The study showed no significant increase in BUN or creatinine levels even in very young children. Due to our lower dosage and time release formulation, no renal toxicity was encountered.

Detoxamin Usage Instructions: Detoxamin EDTA Suppositories are solid, bullet-shaped preparations designed for easy insertion into the anus (back passage). Detoxamin is manufactured in a cocoa-butter base, a time-release agent (fatty acid base), and 750 mg of Calcium-Disodium EDTA. Detoxamin will dissolve at body temperature and will gradually spread over the lining of the lower bowel (rectum), where it is absorbed into the bloodstream. Detoxamin is designed to release 750 mg Calcium Disodium EDTA slowly, over an 80-minute period.

A. Detoxamin Protocol for More Severe Cases:
1. Take one suppository at night, prior to bedtime.
2. Take every night for up to 90 days. This will provide the medical equivalence of 30 IV Chelation treatments.
3. Take proper mineral/trace mineral/vitamin replacement every day.
4. Take all other suplementaion every day.
B. Detoxamin Protocol for Less Severe Cases/Anti-Aging/Prevention:
1. Take Detoxamin every OTHER night, prior to bedtime.
2. Take Detoxamin every other night for 180 days (90 suppositories). This will provide the medical equivalence of 30 IV chelation treatments.
3. Take proper mineral/trace mineral/vitamin replacement every day.
4. Take all other supplementation every day.
Detoxamin Protocol AFTER A or B is completed:
Your bones are toxic for life. Lead and other heavy metals are stored in the bones and get re-distributed into the bloodstream. Therefore, it is highly recommended to continue maintenance with Detoxamin, this provides the ultimate in Anti-aging benefits.
1. Take 5 Detoxamin suppositories over a 30-day period. This porvides medically equal to about 2 EDTA IV treatments.
2. Take porper mineral/trace mineral/vitamin replacement every day.
Note: Detoxamin is designed to be taken at night, however some patients and physicians prefer taking a suppository in the morning after evacuation. (Optional)
How to Use Detoxamin:
Insert Detoxamin suppositories at night, prior to bedtime.
Eat early in the evening, about 4 hours prior to bedtime. (Reduces any discomfort).1. Go to the toilet and empty your bowels if necessary.
2. Wash your hands.
3. Remove the plastic wrapping from Detoxamin.
4. Either squat or lie on your side with one leg bent and the other staight.
5. Gently but firmly push the suppository into the rectum, FLAT end first until past the sphincter muscle. By inserting the flat end first opposed to the pointed end, the suppository will travel higher up in the rectum more easily. If necessarey moisten the suppository with a little water. Push it in far enough so it doesn't slip out.
6. Close your legs and sit or lay still for a few minutes.
7. Wash your hands again.
8. Try not to empty your bowels for at least 80 minutes.
9. It is optional to take Detoxamin in the morning, after evacuation.

STORAGE: Store Detoxamin in a cool dark place, but not in the fridge. If Detoxamin suppository gets warm it may melt, put the fridge for a few minutes, this will return the suppository to its original state so it may be inserted.
Shelf Life: 2 Years

What is Chelation Therapy? Its Value & Effects

order here:
Chelation Therapy is a safe, effective and relatively inexpensive treatment to restore blood flow in victims of atherosclerosis without surgery.

Chelation Therapy involves the intravenous infusion of a prescription medicine called Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic Acid (EDTA), plus vitamins and minerals at therapeutic dosages.

EDTA chelation infusions are administered by slow drip, circulating through the blood stream treating the entire arterial system removing undesirable metals from the body. Some metals such as lead, mercury cadmium and iron are poisons. Lead and cadmium levels correlate with high blood pressure. Overload of iron can cause heart attacks. All metals, even essential nutritional elements, are toxic in excess or when abnormally situated.

EDTA normalizes the distribution of most metallicelements in the body. EDTA improves calcium and cholesterol metabolism by eliminating metallic catalysts which cause damage to cell membranes by producing 'OXYGEN FREE RADICALS'. Free radical pathology is now believed by many scientists to be an important contributing cause of atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes and other diseases of ageing.

EDTA helps prevent the production of harmful 'Free Radicals' through elimination. Arterial disease is responsible for strokes, heart attacks, poor circulation and memory loss.

High Resolution Blood Cell Morphology and The SanPharma Remedies

by Ron Kennedy, M.D., Santa Rosa, California
Hereupon we enter a conversation unique in medical science, an area of medicine with which most doctors, at least in the U.S., are totally unfamiliar, yet an area of medicine which accounts for or strongly contributes to all disease processes except for the classic genetic diseases.

Here at last we have an explanation for and a treatment of the almost universal problem of acidification in human disease. Acidification is the basis of almost all human illness, and conversely alkalinization is the basis of almost all human health. In my opinion, this is the most meaningful and difference-making body of information in medicine. To not read every word of this conversation is to not care about one's health.

High Resolution Cell Morphology...
An understanding of the high resolution cell morpholgy is very important in grasping acidity, for it is only with this type of microscope that the causes of acidity are observable. In this kind of microscope light comes from the side of the specimen which then appears against a black background, whereas in all other light microscopes the light shines directly through the specimen from behind it. This can be compared to seeing dust particles floating in air illuminated by a source of light not aimed directly into your eyes and visible only by virtue of a dark background compared to searching in vain for those same dust particles with the source of light shining through the particles and directly into your eyes. This microscope illuminates and makes visible phenomena in human blood which cannot be seen in any other way. With addition of phase contrast capability, amost nothing escapes visualization.

The SanPharma remedies are particularly well suited to correcting conditions seen with special microscopy. These are "isopathic" remedies made from compounds derived from organisms which commonly cause human disease. They both eliminate those same organisms and train the immune system to keep them eliminated. The concept of "isospathic"is German in origin. There is nothing comparable in American medicine, even though the Germans have been on to this problem with the immune system for 35 years.

Facts of Acidity
Optimal health occurs in a slightly alkaline environment. Alkalinity is so important in blood that the body has powerful mechanisms to maintain pH between 7.25 and 7.65. If this mechanism fails death ensues in short order. The sources of acidity are: chronic infection (usually hidden - commonly gut wall infection and/or cavitations) and diet.

All infections produce acidity due to the waste products of micro-organisms. Anyone who cannot make themselves alkaline by diet alone is suspect of having a hidden infection.

The dietary contribution to acidity derives from two sources: (1) simple and refined carbohydrates and (2) animal derived foods. Simple and refined carbs are metabolized to acid byproducts quickly by the liver and the resulting acid condition must be buffered just as quickly to maintain life. The source for alkaline substances to buffer and acid load is found in the extravascular space, primarily bone. Prolonged consumption of refined and simple carbs is the major cause of osteoporosis as the bones are robbed of their minerals to maintain life.

Another source of acidity is the so-called "toxic colon." This is a type "infection,"however the infective agents are not, strictly speaking "in" the body, but rather in the lumen of the colon. To read more about this, go to colon health.

Exercise, both aerobic and anaerobic, stimulates excretion of toxins via lungs and sweat glands. Failure to exercise promotes an acid condition. Coach potatoes have a hard time remaining alkaline even with an alkaline diet. At the other extreme, people who exercise in an extreme manner (think of marathoners) produce prodigious amounts of acid and this accounts for "hitting the wall," a phenomenon marathoners experience commonly after about 19 miles of running. Exreme exercise should be avoided as much as a sedentary lifestyle.

The Presence of Organisms
Cell wall deficient bacteria (CWDs), mycoplama and fungus in blood are clear markers of chronic acidity. Not only do they denote a lifestyle which for many years has resulted in a current acid conditions, they also produce their own acid. They live in and on red and white blood cells. Their presence accounts for the many clinical cases seen in medicine of people who have adopted an excellent alkaline producing life style and yet remain chronically acid and therefore ill. Until these organisms are destroyed, recurring acidity is assured.

The body must regulate pH (pH is a measure of acidity-alkalinity) to keep the blood slightly alkaline to sustain life; therefore this acidic condition must be transferred immediately to the extravascular space (the rest of the body outside the circulation). This acid transfer supports the growth of fungi, bacteria and viruses and other micro-organisms primarily on mucous membranes (the internal surfaces) — mouth, gut, vagina, respiratory tract, etc. These microbial stages in turn produce more acid. Common superficial manifestations of the fungal phases are a coated tongue, dandruff, athletes foot, chronic bronchitis, and vaginal yeast infection.

Two Common Examples of Directly Related Common Conditions
While almost every disease process is caused or accelerated by acidity, I mention only two common ones to demonstrate. Also on this list is vascular disease, cancer, arthritis, and virtually all the diseases which are not strictly determined by genetic errors. Dysbiosis

Probably the most damage is done in the GI tract where these microbial forms disrupt normal digestion and through acid production support the growth of pathogenic anaerobic bacteria, a condition known as dysbiosis. Dysbiosis further dysregulates the entire organism (the host) and stands as both a sign of the deeper internal dysregulation by the organisms (parasitic in nature) in the blood, and as a contributor of other disease processes through the production of more acid by anaerobic bacteria in the gut. Direct treatment of dysbiosis (such as bulking agents and probiotics such as acidophilus: www.dreddy-clinic.com ) does nothing more than temporarily stave off its effects. As soon as direct treatment is discontinued, the dysbiotic condition re-establishes itself due to acid production by the organisms living in, around and on red blood cells.

Yeast Syndrome
The condition popularly referred to as "Yeast Syndrome" is an outcome of this acidification of the body. Yeast Syndrome is actually a misnomer. It should be called "Mixed Organism, Primarily Fungus Including Some Variable Amount of Yeast, Syndrome." The worst thing you can do for a so-called Yeast Syndrome is treat it with an antibiotic. This kills a few organisms, but dysregulates the immune system and makes the condition even worse. And, it does nothing for the underlying condition: acidity.

Therapy
It is critically important to realize that the advent of organisms and structures in/on/around blood cells does not happen rapidly and does not go away just because you change your diet and lifestyle. When you have high resolution blood cell morphology, the picture you see is the way your blood picture is going to look for at least a few weeks, whatever you do. There is no point in checking in on it again for at least another two months and then only if you are in intense therapy.

Diet
Here are my recommendations for diet. If you follow these recommendation and are still acidic, it is very likely that you have an infection, hidden or otherwise:

1. Avoid trans-fatty acids and partly hydrogenated fats ("bad fats").2. Consume some omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids every day (good fats). The proportion of these two is in hot debate, so I have no recommendations on that subject. Good source is some humus - read the labels.3. Eliminate sugar and white flour (simple and refined carbs or "bad carbs"). Rely on complex carbs (veggies) for your carbohydrate needs.4. Consume more fruits, veggies, and legumes in place of simple and refined carbs.5. If you eat bread, make it sprouted whole grain such as (and especially) Ezekiel.6. Eat only what you need to satisfy hunger. Get used to stopping when satisfied.7. Eliminate or reduce to one or two servings per week of red meat (due to saturated fats which increase the risk of cancer).8. If you use salt, use pure salt. The only brand available is called Kosher Salt.9. Eliminate or reduce to once every two weeks all sea/lake/river/water food (due to heavy metals).10. Your water source should be distilled water. Don't buy the propaganda about water. The purpose of water is cleansing and hydrating, not delivering dissolved dirt even if there are minerals in the dirt.11. Choose organic.12. Choose quality over quantity.13. If you need to loose weight, do it without drugs using the principles above combined with daily exercise.14. Read the labels of whatever processed foods you consume, whether organic or not.

Exercise
A proper exercise regime is not the same for all people. Age, physical condition, condition of the heart, general state of health, and other factors must all be taken into account. If there is any doubt about any of these areas, an exercise program should be worked out with the aid of sound medical advice. However, this is not a reason not to exercise. The benefits of exercise in the area of health, longevity, vitality, and physiological changes cannot be obtained in any other way. Exercise accelerates detoxification, promotes lymph drainage, creates a mild chelating agent (lactate), boosts the immune system in measurable ways, and obviously increases stamina and strength.

Emotional and Spiritual Life
People who need emotional work typically use denial to hide that fact from themselves, as in "I'm OK until I collapse and can't move anymore." Therefore, progress in this area begins with an acknowledgment of need. Improvement of the emotional and spiritual life may require psychotherapy, consciousness training, meditation, religion, and perhaps even life changes. However, like exercise, nothing happens until you take action. When you complete this article, I suggest you click on "Basis of Spiritual Health," the mauve button in the upper right above, and follow that to its conclusion.

Avoidance of Chemical Exposures
Thanks to the pharmaceutical and chemical industries there now exist thousands of molecular structures which do not occur in nature. Preservatives, herbicides, pesticides, and drugs, artificial fertilizers are a few of these. Many of these are known and proven to be toxic to humans and animals, and many more have not been sufficiently studied for toxicity. All of them are found in tap water. They all result in acid production when introduced into the body.
While it is impossible to avoid all of these all of the time, there are steps one can take which will dramatically reduce exposure. Grow your own food or buy only organic. Drink only distilled water. Live by the ocean or get an air filter system. Choose orthomolecular therapy over pharmaceuticals.

SanPharma Remedies
If you change to a healthier lifestyle, you may or may not see immediate benefits in the way your feel, but the deeper changes — in what one would call the fundamental constitution — happen very slowly. The conditions which support the aforementioned organisms and structures do not change rapidly where they actually life - the red blood cells. Also, remember, they produce their own environment: acid. This is where the SanPharma remedies are useful. These are so called "isopathic remedies" and work by reducing organisms and structures to their non-pathogenic state in which the body's immune system can take care of them naturally.
The rate at which this transformation can happen is limited by the Herxheimer reaction (see below) and can be induced with the SanPharma remedies when combined with diet and lifestyle changes typically within 6-9 months. With diet and life style changes alone it can take many years. What you get for your patience is not only freedom from disease, but a new constitution and a new level of vitality (see also below).

The remedies developed by the German scientist Dr. Guenther Enderlein and his associates have been used for decades with great success in Germany and have recently been approved by the FDA for use in the United States. They are manufactured in isopathic preparations which are labeled "homeopathic" due to FDA regulations. However, these are not traditional homeopathic remedies. The FDA did not have "isopathic" in its vocabulary, so it plugged in something which sounded similar: "homeopathic." Isopathy is not homeopathy. These preparations work systemically (on the whole body) although their effectiveness can be enhanced by local application.

Because these remedies promote healthy cell metabolism and hormonal balance, the body's internal environment experiences profound changes that benefit the entire constitution. Therefore, when treating illness, combinations of different SanPharma products as well as natural products (enzymes, minerals, vitamins, nutrients, etc.) produced by other companies are often used to restore the internal symbiosis required for good health.

The Herxheimer Reaction
One note of caution: the SanPharma remedies are not "feel good" medicines. The breaking down of acid producing organisms releases a lot of toxic material and as you get permanently better you feel temporarily worse. This has been described first by the German physician Karl Herxheimer and is known as the Herxheimer reaction. It is up to the doctor who prescribes the SanPharma remedies to bring you along at a pace you can tolerate. Too much treatment too fast will make you so ill you will not be able to continue. The toxic material which is released must be excreted by kidneys, liver, sweat glands, etc. Your doctor may see fit to prescribe drainage formulas to help specific organs detox more easily if you have weakness in one or more areas. The total load of acid producing micro-organism can ordinarily be eliminated within a few months if diet and lifestyle issues are also dealt with effectively. Along the way, you can rejoice in the Herxheimer reaction and know that it is working when you feel not exactly right.

Constitution and Vitality
Doctors have recognized for centuries, perhaps millennia that people possess an enduring quality they have designated "constitution" which lends whatever degree of vitality and resistance to disease one possesses. Until now doctors had no idea about the source of constitution and assigned it to a category one could call "what's so." Since the development of genetics as a science "what's so" has been translated to "inherited vitality" or "inherited constitution." Now we fully understand that it is in not entirely genetic, but is rather an expression of micro-organisms present on mucous membranes and in the blood in relationship to the immune system. In dealing with almost any disease which relates to the immune system, in my opinion, whatever therapy you choose will not work very well until you have dealt with this problem.

Live Blood Cell Analysis:

Another Gimmick to Sell You Something
Stephen Barrett, M.D.
Live blood cell analysis is carried out by placing a drop of blood from the patient's fingertip on a microscope slide under a glass cover slip to keep it from drying out. The slide is then viewed at high magnification with a dark-field microscope that forwards the image to a television monitor. Both practitioner and patient can then see the blood cells, which appear as dark bodies outlined in white. The practitioner may take polaroid photographs of the television picture or may videotape the procedure for himself and/or the patient. The results are then used as a basis for prescribing supplements. The procedure is also called live cell analysis, dark-field video analysis, nutritional blood analysis, and several other names.

Dark-field microscopy is a valid scientific tool in which special lighting is used to examine specimens of cells and tissues. The objects being viewed stand out against a dark background—the opposite of what occurs during regular microscopy. This allows the observer to see things that might not be visible with standard lighting. Connecting a television monitor to a microscope for diagnostic purposes is also a legitimate practice. However, live cell analysis is not. Most of its users are chiropractors, naturopaths, or bogus "nutrition consultants."
Dubious Claims

According to a flyer from a Los Angeles chiropractor:
Live Blood Analysis is a simple procedure for obtaining a quick and accurate assessment of your blood. With only a sample, taken virtually without pain from your finger, [the test] is able to provide a composite of over 25 aspects from your live blood. Darkfield microscopy now allows us to observe multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies, toxicity, tendencies toward allergic reaction, excess fat circulation, liver weakness and arteriosclerosis.

During 1998, the web site of the Integrated Medical Center, Annandale, Virginia, stated:
Blood is magnified by 30,000 times, giving us the ability to document your condition, monitor your progression while on treatment. The blood is the pathway to the flesh and tells all. Using this technology allows us to monitor your condition and adjust as needed. Your blood is the best place to find quick result and determine if you therapy is effective. Quick response spells maximum results.

"Nutripath" Stephen Heuer, of Sunnyvale, California, claims that great benefits can result from monitoring a special protein:
Live Blood Analysis in a Dark Field primarily monitors the life cycle of a protein called the "Symprotit" or "Prion".

The Symprotit creates health under the right pH conditions or disease under the wrong pH conditions. Within us are the seeds for life or death depending on the environment we create for the Symprotit. Diet, radiation, emotions, and toxins are the four factors which influence this internal environment for life or for death. Much like the butterfly starts out as an egg, becomes a caterpillar, and finally becomes a butterfly, so too can this microscopic blood pritein called the Symprotit/Prion evolve into a bacteria in the blood and then a fungus in the tissues.

Monitoring the life cycle of this protein can give you the correct understanding of biology to help you heal Cancer, Arthritis, Candida, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Prostate issues, Multiple sclerosis, Bacterial, Viral and Yeast Infections, Depression, Sleep Disorders, Headaches, Constipation, Excess Body Fat, Potency or Fertility Problems, Memory Problems, PMS, Menopause, and more. Health is attainable when the environment for it is created.

The Innerlight Biologic Microorganism Research Foundation claims that live blood cell analysis can reveal "the level of activity or inactivity of the immune system," various types of "organ stress," and many types of "metabolic dysfunction."

These claims are sheer bunkum.

The most active individual promoters of live-cell analysis have been James R. Privitera, M.D., of Covina, California, and Joel Robbins, D.C., of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Privitera claims that "clot malfunction" is an underlying cause of many diseases, can be diagnosed with live cell analysis, and can be treated with large doses of dietary supplements.

(The pardon occurred in response to a letter-writing campaign generated by the National Health Federation, a group that espouses what it calls "health freedom.") Then, because Privitera had been prescribing unapproved substances (including laetrile, calcium pangamate, and DMSO) for the treatment of cancer, the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance suspended his medical license for four months and placed him on ten years' probation under board supervision.

In 1999, Privitera was implicated in the death of a 71-year-old woman who had consulted him for arm pain. While in Privitera's waiting room, she complained of a headache while in Privitera's waiting room. Documents in the case state that Prviitera (a) prescribed 20,000 units of heparin (an anticoagulant) to be placed under the woman's tongue, (b) examined a blood sample with a dark-field microscope, (c) concluded that the blood specimen showed too much tendency to clot, and (d) prescribed another 20,000 units of heparin to be given under the patient's skin. Soon afterward, the patient became lightheaded, vomited, and passed out. She was rushed to a hospital. where it was noted that she was comatose and was bleeding from several places. She died a few hours later, apparently as a result of a massive hemorrhage inside her head. In 2003, the Medical Board of California charged that Privitera had (a) failed to properly evaluate the woman's headache, (b) had no documented rationale for administering heparin, and (c) had administered an overdose [2]. The case was settled with a stipulation under which Privitera agreed to be reprimanded, pay $5,000 for costs, and take courses in prescribing and medical recordkeeping [3].

Robbins graduated in 1978 from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri, but he also claims to have a Doctor of Naturopathy (ND) degree from the Anglo-American Institute of Drugless Therapy and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the British West Indies College of Medicine. The Anglo-American Institute of Naturopathy was a British diploma mill that issued credentials to people who completed mail-order lessons, submitted a thesis, and paid a modest fee. The "British West Indies College of Medicine" was not an actual school but was a scheme created by con man Gregory E. Caplinger to defraud chiropractors of "tuition" money [4]. In 1996, Caplinger was arrested in Florida on ten counts of racketeering and grand theft, but the charges were withdrawn after he made partial refunds.
Dubious Conduct
During the mid-1980s, National Council Against Health Fraud vice president James Lowell, Ph.D., watched three practitioners demonstrate live cell analysis at health expositions. Lowell noted:
None took precautions during the preparation of the slides to prevent the blood from drying out or clotting.

They failed to clean their microscope slides carefully between patients, which meant that dirt seen under the microscope would be misinterpreted as blood components.
Some of the patterns one practitioner saw resulted from his microscope being out of focus and disappeared when Lowell adjusted it properly. [5]

Live cell analysis has also been promoted by Infinity2, of Scottsdale, Arizona, a multilevel company whose distributors often demonstrate their wares at chiropractic conventions. Infinity2 called the test "live cell microscopy" or "Nutritional Blood Analysis" and recruited licensed health professionals to use the procedure to sell its products. In 1995, I was tested at a national chiropractic convention where two teams of Infinity2 distributors had exhibits.

Unknown to them, however, I had faked taking the pills, so the "improvements" they saw had nothing to do with them. The most likely explanation is that the specimens were examined differently. Blood dries more quickly near the edges of the slide than near the center. Thus "improvement" will occur if the first specimen is examined near an edge and the second specimen is examined near its center. Company literature listed Joel Robbins as a member of its Professional Advisory Council.

I asked both exhibitors whether the test procedure is covered under insurance policies. One—a naturopath—said he routinely billed the test as a regular office visit and also used eight CPT codes, including B12 testing for deficiency. he also said that Infinity2 ran training sessions on how to do the testing and billing. The other exhibitor did not confirm that the course included "creative billing" ideas, but he said that he knew that some doctors were billing the test as regular visits. Some live-cell practitioners are using the procedure code number for "dark-field microscopy" when they submit insurance claims forms. Doing any of these things would be insurance fraud.

Regulatory Actions
In 1996, the Pennsylvania Department of Laboratories informed three Pennsylvania chiropractors that Infinity2's "Nutritional Blood Analysis" could not be used for diagnostic purposes unless they maintain a laboratory that has both state and federal certification for complex testing [6].

There is no commentary given regarding the state of the patient's blood or anything seen in the bloodstream itself other than to educate the patient by pointing out features of the blood such as red cells, white cells, and plasma. The patient is able to view a sample of his/her own blood, which results in the motivation that can lead to beneficial lifestyle changes for the individual patient [7].

Showed the patient's blood smear and making any comment or providing any information other than to point out features of the blood such as red cells, white cells, and platelets [8].

Federal certification of medical laboratories is governed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) which Congress enacted in 1998 to establish quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of patient test results regardless of where the test was performed. In 1996 and 1997, the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) Office of General Counsel determined that live blood analysis was a "high-complexity" text and was subject to stringent CLIA requirements. Failure to comply with any of these requirements will result in enforcement actions and/or sanctions being taken.

In 2001, the HHS Office of the Inspector General issued a report on regulation of "unestablished laboratory tests" that focused on live blood cell analysis [9]. In 2004, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a special alert which stated that any facility performing live blood cell analysis must have CLIA certification for high-complexity testing [8]. Very few practitioners who do live blood cell analysis would have reason to seek laboratory certification; and if they did, I doubt that they would get permission. However, the states have jurisdiction over whether noncompliant laboratories are permitted to remain in business.

In 2005, the Rhode island department of Health ordered Joyce M. Martin, D.C., to stop performing live blood analysis. An attorney for the state Board of Examiners in Chiropractic Medicine described the test as as "useless" and a "money-making scheme " A state medical board official said that the test has no discernible value and the public should be very suspicious of any practitioner who offers it [11]. Edzard Ernst, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of Complementary Medicine at the University of Exeter, summed up the situation in an article in the British Guardian:

Seeing one's own blood cells on a video screen is, admittedly, a powerful experience. It gives patients the impression of hi-tech, cutting edge science combined with holistic care. And impressed patients are ready to part with a lot of money. American websites explain how a practitioner can make $100,000 (£57,000) annually by purchasing the equipment necessary for performing LBA. The bulk of this money is made not through charging for the test itself but by selling expensive nutritional supplements to the patient with the promise that these will correct whatever abnormality has been diagnosed.

In other words, patients are potentially cheated three times over. First, you are diagnosed with a "condition" you don't have; then a lengthy and expensive treatment ensues; and finally the bogus test is repeated and you are declared "improved" or "back to normal." [12]
If you encounter anyone who performs any type of live cell analysis, please report this to your state department of laboratories and send a copy of your notice to me at P.O. Box 1747, Allentown, PA 18105.

Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)

What is GFR?
GFR - glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease. Your doctor can calculate it from the results of your blood creatinine test, your age, race, gender and other factors.
The earlier kidney disease is detected, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.
What happens if my test results show I may have chronic kidney disease?
Your doctor will want to pinpoint your diagnosis and check your kidney function to help plan your treatment. The doctor may do the following:

Calculate your Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), which is the best way to tell how much kidney function you have. You do not need to have another test to know your GFR. Your doctor can calculate it from your blood creatinine, your age, race, gender and other factors. Your GFR tells your doctor your stage of kidney disease and helps the doctor plan your treatment.
Perform an ultrasound or CT scan to get a picture of your kidneys and urinary tract. This tells your doctor whether your kidneys are too large or too small, whether you have a problem like a kidney stone or tumor and whether there are any problems in the structure of your kidneys and urinary tract.
Perform a kidney biopsy, which is done in some cases to check for a specific type of kidney disease, see how much kidney damage has occurred and help plan treatment. To do a biopsy, the doctor removes small pieces of kidney tissue and looks at them under a microscope.
Your doctor may also ask you to see a kidney specialist who will consult on your case and help manage your care.

Understanding your lab values
People who develop chronic kidney disease may have some or all of the following tests and measurements. If you have kidney disease ask your doctor which tests you will have and how often they will be done. Speak to your doctor about your results. If your numbers are not in the normal range, ask how to improve them.

Serum Creatinine:
Creatinine is a waste product in your blood that comes from muscle activity. It is normally removed from your blood by your kidneys, but when kidney function slows down, the creatinine level rises. Your doctor should use the results of your serum creatinine test to calculate your GFR.

Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR):
Your GFR tells how much kidney function you have. It may be estimated from your blood level of creatinine. If your GFR falls below 30 you will need to see a kidney disease specialist (called a nephrologist), Your kidney doctor will speak to you about treatments for kidney failure like dialysis or kidney transplant. A GFR below 15 indicates that you need to start one of these treatments.

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN):
Urea nitrogen is a normal waste product in your blood that comes from the breakdown of protein from the foods you eat and from your body metabolism. It is normally removed from your blood by your kidneys, but when kidney function slows down, the BUN level rises. BUN can also rise if you eat more protein, and it can fall if you eat less protein.
Urine Protein: When your kidneys are damaged, protein leaks into your urine. A simple test can be done to detect protein in your urine. Persistent protein in the urine is an early sign of chronic kidney disease.

Microalbuminuria:
This is a sensitive test that can detect a small amount of protein in the urine.
Urine Creatinine: This test estimates the concentration of your urine and helps to give an accurate protein result.

Protein-to-Creatinine Ratio:
This estimates the amount of protein you excrete in your urine in a day and avoids the need to collect a 24-hour sample of your urine.

Serum Albumin:
Albumin is a type of body protein made from the protein you eat each day. A low level of albumin in your blood may be caused by not getting enough protein or calories from your diet. A low level of albumin may lead to health problems such as difficulty fighting off infections. Ask your dietitian how to get the right amount of protein and calories from your diet.

nPNA:
Your nPNA (normalized protein nitrogen appearance) is a test that may tell if you are eating enough protein. This measurement comes from lab studies that include a urine collection and blood work. Your dietitian may ask for an accurate food record to go with this test.

Subjective Global Assessment (SGA):
Your dietitian may use SGA to help check for signs of nutrition problems. The dietitian will ask you some questions about your daily diet and check your weight and the fat and muscle stores in your face, hands, arms, shoulders and legs. Ask your dietitian about your score on the SGA. If your score is too low, ask how to improve it.

Hemoglobin:
Hemoglobin is the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to all parts of your body. Your hemoglobin level tells your doctor if you have anemia, which makes you feel tired and have little energy. If you have anemia, you may need treatment with iron supplements and a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO). The goal of anemia treatment is to reach and maintain a hemoglobin level of at least 11 to 12.

Hematocrit:
Your hematocrit is a measure of the red blood cells your body is making. A low hematocrit can mean you have anemia and need treatment with iron and EPO. You will feel less tired and have more energy when your hematocrit reaches at least 33 to 36 percent.

TSAT and Serum Ferritin:
Your TSAT (pronounced tee-sat) and serum ferritin (pronounced ferry-tin) are measures of iron in your body. Your TSAT should be above 20 percent and your serum ferritin should be above 100. This will help you build red blood cells. Your doctor will recommend iron supplements when needed to reach your target levels.

Parathyroid Hormone (PTH):
High levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) may result from a poor balance of calcium and phosphorus in your body. This can cause bone disease. Ask your doctor if your PTH level is in the right range. Your doctor may order a special prescription form of vitamin D to help lower your PTH. Caution: Do not take over-the-counter vitamin D unless ordered by your doctor.

Calcium:
Calcium is a mineral that is important for strong bones. Ask your doctor what your calcium level should be. To help balance the amount of calcium in your blood, your doctor may ask you to take calcium supplements and a special prescription form of vitamin D. Take only the supplements and medications recommended by your doctor.

Phosphorus:
A high phosphorus level can lead to weak bones. Ask your doctor what your phosphorus level should be. If your level is too high, your doctor may ask you to reduce your intake of foods that are high in phosphorus and take a type of medication called a phosphate binder with your meals and snacks.

Potassium:
Potassium is a mineral in your blood that helps your heart and muscles work properly. A potassium level that is too high or too low may weaken muscles and change your heartbeat. Whether you need to change the amount of high- potassium foods in your diet depends on your stage of kidney disease. Ask your doctor what your potassium level should be. Your dietitian can help you plan your diet to get the right amount of potassium.

Body Weight:
Maintaining a healthy weight is important to your overall health. If you are losing weight without even trying, you may not be getting the right nutrition to stay healthy. Your dietitian can suggest how to safely add extra calories to your diet if needed. On the other hand, if you are slowly gaining too much weight, you may need to reduce calories and increase your activity level. A sudden weight gain can also be a problem. If it is accompanied by swelling, shortness of breath and a rise in blood pressure, it may be a sign of too much fluid in your body. Speak to your doctor if your weight changes noticeably.

Blood Pressure:
Ask your doctor what your blood pressure should be. If your blood pressure is high, make sure to follow all the steps in your prescribed treatment, which may include taking high blood pressure medications, cutting down on the amount of salt in your diet, losing excess weight and following a regular exercise program.

Total Cholesterol:
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found in your blood. A high cholesterol level may increase your chance of having heart and circulation problems. For many patients, a good level for total cholesterol is below 200. If your cholesterol level is too high, your doctor may ask you to make some changes in your diet and increase your activity level. In some cases, medications are also used.

HDL Cholesterol:
HDL cholesterol is a type of "good" cholesterol that protects your heart. For many patients, the target level for HDL cholesterol is above 40.

LDL Cholesterol:
LDL cholesterol is a type of "bad" cholesterol. A high LDL level may increase your chance of having heart and circulation problems. For many patients, the target level for LDL cholesterol is below 100. If your LDL level is too high, your doctor may ask you to make some changes in your diet and increase your activity level.

Triglyceride:
Triglyceride is a type of fat found in your blood. A high triglyceride level along with high levels of total and LDL cholesterol may increase your chance of heart and circulation problems.
